Maybe it's a double standard? I shoulda flashed some cash and told her to either earn it or quiet down.

We allow photo tags that you may have stashed in your back pocket, in order to keep the game rolling along and situations that may have prevented you from snagging a new one on the way home (raining, got too dark, just didn't have a chance, wasn't anything good, etc), but there are limits (don't want to see a tag from a bike that you no longer own from 5 years ago), and we prefer the fresher stuff.

Re: Need a reason to ride? Lets play....

To keep the game moving I'll submit this one. It's only maybe 2 months old. Some great riding out that way, enjoy!

(PS: what's the distance limitation on tags? Within 100 miles of Cincy?)

IF that's true, that brings ME in to the game!

That's correct. I stuck it waaaaayyyyyyy out at the end of that 100 mile radius once. Probably wasn't the best of ideas but that hammered out the rule. The tab must be within 100 miles of any point in Cincy.

Cincinnati, 100 Mile Radius

For the visual learners in the group: Cincinnati, 100 mile radius.

Re: Need a reason to ride? Lets play....

I've tried to keep this exact game going on at AFJ for several years now and it usually makes it 8-10 spots and then dies. Last two years I don't think it even made it 5 spots.

Really looking forward to this one! I have a lot of free time and good meat on my tires!

Doesn't seem like a very friendly business to me, maybe the lady doesn't like Yamaha's. AnswerMeister, maybe your sister should ask for some money back. I'll let my daughters know that the Wiedemann Hill Mansion is off their list, for a wedding venue.

Actually, that rule has been stretched a bit. The rule has always been 'less than 100 miles away from Cincinnati". Cincinnati covers a pretty big area. As THom mentioned, he once placed it in Virginia Point Park which is a little piece of land that pokes out where West Virginia. Kentucky, and Ohio all come together. It was determined to be something like 99.6-miles [as the crow flies] from a Cincinnati zip code boundary on the far SE side of the city. The outer Cincinnati boundary has been used to calculate the total distance of other tags that were pressing the limits as well. I don't know where people come up with these ideas.

So what is the actual rule? Practicality?

Reasonable distance from the city center?

Jeff

  2. Tag needs to be less then 100 miles away from Cincinnati, OH (sorry iron butters)
  3. Tag needs to be accessible with any street legal bike (e.g. close to a paved road, no dirt, gravel, single track required to get there)
  4. Hints must be given to find the tag if it is not obvious (e.g. easlily googled)
The rule doesn't say anything about city center. Several past tags have used the edge of the city.

Re: Need a reason to ride? Lets play....

If the idea is in fact to get out and ride, it's just more logical to have them closer (within reason) to say a central point like downtown (AKA the Red's Stadium).

If we always post up tags 70-80-100 miles away, the game lingers and takes longer on any forum I've been a part of. Eventually someone has enough time to go snag it, but most riders prefer backroads to slab, so an 80 mile one way ride might require 3 hours.

Unique local landmarks aren't hard to come by. Most often, finding them for the next tag is more fun than making it to the initial tag!

I already have my next one in mind... it includes a brewery tour and tasting! Indiana locals might get it quickly!

When the game slows down (like many of these games have recently), we do tend to make the easier and keep them within reach for most participants. There have been times when this game really get cranked up though, sometimes changing hands multiple times a day, and when it starts getting competitive, the tags will occasionally get pushed further out.
