19th Annual BRP BlueRidge Parkway Trip 2019

Ok Ok Ive really really really slacked again this year but I have an excuse (its not a good one) but I've have been working not so much and not really burning the candle and both ends and all the of the sudden its August 2019...

Thanks Bubba for reminding at NSYC today you da man!!

http://www.localriders.com/forums/sh...&highlight=brp

And other years

http://www.localriders.com/forums/sh...&highlight=brp

http://www.localriders.com/forums/sh...light=2016+brp

A great time every year and its time to ride again! I'm hoping to leave on Sunday/Monday (September 1st, 2nd) the usual ( don't know if I have any participants yet or a bike with a good set of rubber mounted) but that's my loose plan! Matt did reserve a cabin to share with me and I know Todd told me earlier this year he's got one for the week as well and I've spoke with a few others and I believe plans are forming now!!
So who else is in!! The only requirement is to just get there. Geo told me he thought a group would probably leave Sunday and Overnight at Todd's ( seeing how all the great is know his playground then Hit up the BlueRidge Motorcycle only campgroup on Monday!

2015 thread above from last year

A couple other epic years below
And the list of riders for the 2003 was quite impressive
http://www.localriders.com/forums/sh...&highlight=brp

Fast forward to ten years later 2013 trip
http://www.localriders.com/forums/sh...&highlight=brp

Well I believe the plan is same as the past... Leave with a group or come whenever is works best for you but in the end just get there!

A few of us will leave Monday/Tuesday bright and early and make a 2 day run across OH, WV, VA and stay in Roanoke or wherever the route takes us the 1st night, then Head down BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY to the BRP Motorcycle Only Camp.. The have cabins its been about $45 a night for 2 beds so we encourage you to call ahead and reserve can't beat those prices when you split a cabin! Tent camping is available and does cost less than splitting a cabin but not much!

So all you have to do is decide how many days you are free from the daily grind and figure it out from there.

We do have a 1 day back roads route down from Cincinnati as well if we need to dodge some weather Instead of the 2 day route.

It's a great time, with great roads to ride and you will be tired every night from riding and sleep good trust me

Re: 19th Annual BRP BlueRidge Parkway Trip 2019

I just got back from a BRP trip. We started at the beginning in Shenandoah and tried to ride the entire length to Cherokee. First off they raised the price of the Shenandoah section from $5 to $25/bike. Then when we got down to an area called Smart they have begun repaving and it's a real mess as they are first putting down a mixture of fine gravel and tar. There are signs warning motorcyclists that traveling beyond that point is hazardous. We decided to push on to see how so and found out the hard way that it's not a good idea. The paving has just begun and it won't be done by the time you guys are planning the trip. Just a heads up. If you want more info PM me and I'll provide my cell number or meet up somewhere.

Weíve been skipping the far North of skyline drive or whatever they call it forever and just start in Roanoke. Then head south on BRP. Taking a detour off isnít that uncommon because they really take good care of the road but problem with that is the tar and gravel thing they do until finished for maximum traction!

Glad to hear you made it down there where else did you stay?

Re: 19th Annual BRP BlueRidge Parkway Trip 2019

Well that's just it we didn't make it. We wanted to ride the entire length of the pkwy. and wound up on a back way to Gatlinburg. I'm serious about how bad the roads are during the paving. I can't emphasize enough just how nasty the tar and gravel thing is. If you enjoy spending hours cleaning stuck on tar dirt and sand off your bike then by all means go for it.
If you pull up this map: https://www.blueridgeparkway.org/parkway-map/ and find the " Smart area recreational area" on the parkway map that is where the paving starts. It's not all that far down from Roanoke. The paving goes on for miles not just spotty areas. It ruined our trip. I'm just trying to keep it so it don't ruin yours.

I was kicking around the idea of going with you guys but with the pkwy. being such a mess I'll pass.

Re: 19th Annual BRP BlueRidge Parkway Trip 2019

George, this is the route Bill & I put together for the trip down in 2013 that I led on the FZ1.
I know that last section on Day-1 on "The Back of the Dragon" from Tazewell to Marion does not bring back fond memories
for you & the V Strom that year. The group really missed having you with us the rest of that week buddy! That was my first
and only year of me leading the group many of the days on the Fazer, & with the help of that bike, gave me a chance to
really carve the twisties better than I ever thought I'd be capable of. I grinned for over 2,000 miles in those 6 days!
I miss you guys, but I will always keep those great memories of the trips I made on the PC800, the FZ1, & in the BMW Z3
sweeping the group behind Fast Eddie. You guys are some of the best riders I ever had the privilege to ride with, & I wish
all the group a safe curve carving trip on your adventure this year, & I hope "Dorian" tracks a path away from your area.

@geoduch

George: The route Dice posted is an earlier route that took us over to 16/Hungry Mother and didn't go thru DBNF/RRG area. This is the link from the 2014 Fall trip--Fast Eddie's last ride--to that route and includes RRG, Big Andy Ridge, Black Mtn, Hayter's Gap. Still end up in Abingdon on Day 1. Day 2 is essentially the same as Dice's post above.
