Re: Inexpensive Used Auto(s)?

No worries, last I heard he was going to contact the people with the Vibe. His daughters are a mess and he's near his breaking point...I feel for him.

That-- I can relate to.Went thru this with my GF's daughter. Spent hours-- weeks-- searching and searching-- driving hundreds of miles checking cars.
Finally found her a Subaru Forester-- perfect for a college student in Rochester NY with a big dumb as a brick dog.
Talked the people down from $5000.00 to $4100.00.
She didn't like it.
Instead talked mom into buying her a POS Camaro that got stuck the first time it snowed and racked up over 700.00 in parking tickets.
She wanted a car to "Drift" because her BF (at the moment) was into drifting
The Camaro lasted longer than the BF.
We finally gave it to Goodwill.

Re: Inexpensive Used Auto(s)?

I gave my boys their first cars so they could hold down jobs. Oldest got a $500 Chevette, second son got a worn out dodge mini van. Both were given jobs at our Dairy Queen and worked to buy the cars they actually wanted. They had to get their own insurance and pay for it from the money they earned. Taught them to appreciate the expense of owning and maintaining a car. I gave them as many hours as they wanted and paid them fairly.
I now have 2 hard working adult sons, that are teaching their own children the value of working for what you want.

Well, these girls are in their early to mid 20's...one can't stop speeding and running into people and the other...well, let's just say she has problems. He's definitely going further to help them than I would. At some point, you've got to cut the cord. But not my monkeys, not my circus.

Yea, why grow up and act like an adult, if mommy and daddy always bail you out

I got kicked out of the house at 18. Best thing my parents ever did for me.

Re: Inexpensive Used Auto(s)?

Yep. My parents didn't exactly kick me out but it was made clear that once I was done with school, I would be expected to find my own place. Of course, I started working summers when I was of legal age in NY (14) so I wasn't exactly a slug.
BTW, his wife is totally fine with leaving them to fend for themselves but he just can't do that (he had issues with his parents, I guess he's trying to be better than they were). Much drama going on there.
Anyway...enough about that. Hopefully he is getting what he needs and I appreciate everyone's input.

How did you keep the BF from crawling out of the donation box?
