Question WTB: BMW R1100S Transmission

Looking for a BMW R1100S transmission. No particular reason. I just like collecting weird stuff. I MIGHT be satisfied with an R1200CL 6-speed tranny instead. I'll probably use it as a door stop or something. It's gotta be a good one though. I have one already, and because it's bad, it doesn't make a good door stop. I'm looking at several sources right now, but none of them are local, and none of them are exactly the right door stop for me.

The 6-speed tranny from the 1150 GS/RT/R/RS share a lot of internals, but uses a different case with a bunch of extra structural stuff. It's not as pretty. I don't want one of those. They make terrible door stops.

Look around on this site, maybe send them an email.

http://www.beemerboneyard.com/

We have a local person who works on Beemers, I can ask him to check around.

Lee B

PS - Is it for an '04 R1100S?

Yes. There are several years that will fit, but I'm a bit leary of the 00/01/02 years as BMW was experiencing some quality control issues that caused a minor misalignment of the case and premature wear of the output spline. I'm not going to rule those out completely, but need to take that into consideration if one of those pops up.

I will check with Roy.

Lee B

PS - do you want the entire transmission, just the case or gear parts?

Re: WTB: BMW R1100S Transmission

Roy doesn't know of one.

He mentioned a 2002 was on ebay.

I couldn't find it.

I have bought airhead parts from here in the past:

http://www.capitalcycle.com/Transmis...-23_c_357.html

They were cheap then, not sure about now. They used to do online micro-fiche, I guess they like to talk to us...

I buy my K parts from A&S Cycles now.

http://www.ascycles.com/Illustrated_....aspx?id=51678

Ow. I don't think there is a cheap place to get BMW parts...

Re: WTB: BMW R1100S Transmission

I have bought a used R1100S tranny out of Florida. Should be in route tomorrow. Crossing my fingers.

Re: WTB: BMW R1100S Transmission

Great!

What is broken on your current transmission? Broken case, bad bearings, shift forks?

Internals. Multiple gears chewed up. My case and output spline are fine.

Re: WTB: BMW R1100S Transmission

Owch.

I will be changing gear oil in the LT with Redline synthetic. Roy said it improves the shifting and first gear entry on the LT's.

I'm still getting the hang of shifting with the dry clutch. Matching RPM's still seems to give me random clunks...

LOL, I think just being a BMW clutch is going to get you random clunks. My RS was NEVER smooth shifting. I thought that was across the board for BMW's.

As my mechanic uncle used to tell me "Just turn up the radio".
