LED turn signals problem

I have installed LED turn signals on my KTM. I have a problem, They do not light up. I have tried an LED specific flasher relay first, and then in line 6 Ohm 50W resistors(one on each of the four wire paths). The light on the speedo flashes at normal rate with the in line resistors,(was solid with the LED flasher relay) but again no light on the turn signals in either case. What could be wrong? (My wiring is sound) its two-wire simple stuff. Is 6 Ohm enough in-line resistance? Any thought appreciated...thx. Morph

Re: LED turn signals problem

Way back when, I had LEDs on the back of a DR350 and bulbs in the front. I can’t remember if they would not light or flashed too fast or what the deal was. After trying a bunch of stuff and searching the web I found that id I put on the cheapest mechanical flasher I could find they worked perfect. I went to autozone and got a $2.95 basic mechanical three prong flasher that plugged right in. When I used that I did not use any resisters or anything high tech. I just wired the LEDs to where the old stalks were and they worked. Sometimes the simple answers are the right answers.

KTM is the problem. I spent 3 hours finding the issue on one I did.

KTM uses Brown for ground and Black for hot. Your LED's are black for ground.

LED's are voltage directional, so I'd bet you have them wire backwards. (like I did)

Signal / Bike
Yellow = black
Black = brown

Re: LED turn signals problem

Yes try swapping wires. LED = light emitting diode. A diode's basic function is to allow current in one direction and block it from the other direction.

Failing that, a multimeter can tell you which wires are coming on with the flasher signal. Harbor freight usually has em for about $4

Re: LED turn signals problem

OK, Ray you were correct, I very consistently wired all four backwards!

So then I fired them up, they blink now but not "LED bright", so I removed one of the two 6 Ohm/50W resistors per side. A little better but not all the LEDs light up in the array on the signal face. I think I will pull the other two resistors and try to get an LED flasher unit (two prong). The issue with the resistors is they get really HOT during flashing for even 20 secs or so. Wont work well tucked inside plastic in the summer I would imagine.

Any suggestions n the right LED Flasher relay? (two Prong) Thx.

I would remove all the resistors and get a flasher designed for LED's
The dropped voltage from the resistors is why all the LED's are not lighting.
I carry a 2 wire electronic flasher. 8-18 volts handles up to 15 amps. draws .1 amp. $19.95 parts # 2050-0070

That shouldn't take too long on a 690.
